Sean Hayden’s Character Interview from My Soul to Keep

Today we have Connor, Clarisse, and Caelyn from Sean Hayden’s My Soul to Keep (another bunch of fun characters). Be sure to read till the end for a short blurb.

My Soul to Keep (Rise of the Fallen, #1)

Angela: Since becoming one of the (big, bad, soul suckers) Fallen, do you feel differently about humanity? You and Caelyn fight constantly, but you can tell you love each other (I think). Now that she’s a vampire, do you feel differently toward her? Do you ever wish you hadn’t said the oath?

Connor: Actually, I do. I’m jealous of them. I miss being human and not having to deal with all this crap.

Life was a LOT simpler a year ago. The only thing I worried about was finding the time to play video games.

Yes. I do love my sister, but if you tell anyone, I will hunt you down and make an extra arm sprout from your forehead. As for being a vampire, I feel guilty, but I don’t feel any different about her. She’s still my sister. She sucks, but it beats the alternative. I wouldn’t care if she were a werewolf. I might buy her a flea collar, but family is family.

As for the oath, if I could go back in time and smack the crap out of myself for even writing it down, I would. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t regret that one.

Angela: Since you two exchanged hearts, literally, do you feel different? More human? Slower? Your weapon of choice are two twin blades, oddly similar to Lucifer’s. Another thing, when you created the Vampire kid, before he turned crazy psycho, Clarisse mention the amount of power you were able to conjure. Do you have an explanation for the extra jolt of power or the similarity of yours and Lucifers blades? Jessica’s father is a Chosen and didn’t hide his dislike for you. However, the two of you worked together nicely. Do you think this may be a start to a new era, between the Fallen and Chosen?

Connor: Since we exchanged I love needlepoint, gardening, and My Little Pony…

Yeah. I’m just kidding. Don’t print that.

Actually, the answer is no. When I said it, that I’d give her my heart, and she said it back…time sort of stopped and there was a huge clap of thunder. That was about it. No feeling different, no nothing. It kept her alive and that is all that matters to me.

HA! My weapons of choice are hardly a choice. They just appear when I call them. Personally, I think they’re pretty bad-ass, but they do cause me a lot of grief. Whenever any of the Fallen or Chosen see them…they have a tendency to freak out a little because they DO look like you-know-who’s.

When I turned Brett into a vampire, the magic just flew into him and instantly transformed him. I don’t know how it happened or why it happened. All I do know is they won’t let me grant any more wishes. The ONLY thing I can think of is maybe it’s because they made me a Fallen? They’re not sure either. As for my blades looking like Lucifer’s, I’m just gonna chalk it up to another of life’s grand schemes of getting back at me for something.

Nicely? Don’t let him here you say that. He might put YOU through a wall. He’s about as nice as a rabid porcupine. And he scares me. No. The only reason we REMOTELY got a long is because of Jessica. Not that she’s healed, the novelty of my help has sort of worn off. Things are getting back to normal…for us.

As for a new era? Not likely. The Fallen have their moments, but the Chosen are a bunch of stuck up asshats. They’ll never get along…

Angela: Do you get bored or tired of your job as a Fallen? Have you ever wanted to warn someone not speak the sacred soul stealing oath? What is your life like outside of taking souls? You’ve posed as a teenager for some time, does that get old? Do you think Connor will learn to become a good Fallen soul taker…person? Are you angry he outsmarted you?

Clarisse: Bored? I don’t think so. Imagine this human, unlimited power with an eternity to enjoy it. I do what I want, when I want, and how I want. Who would get bored with that?

Why would I warn someone? Humans have wants and we have needs. They get what they want and we get what we need. Would you warn a fish not to eat the worm you placed on the hook? Geesh. You ask some stupid questions. Are you related to Connor?

Yeah, looking like a teenage girl for eternity is an absolute horrid fate! I would MUCH rather wither, grow old, and eventually move into a nursing home. Are you SURE you’re not related to Connor?

Do I think Connor will make a good Reaper? I hope so. He sucked as a Seeker. Making crazy ass vampires does NOT look good on a resume.

Let’s get one thing straight, mortal. The worm did not outsmart me. He didn’t win. He didn’t pull one over on the Fallen. He thought he saw a way out of his predicament, but it wasn’t. He stepped out of the frying pan directly into the lava pit. Ask HIM if he thought he made a wise choice.

Angela: Now that you are one of the ‘undead’ do you feel any different? Are you glad to be alive, so to speak? Do you think you will sparkle when in the sunlight? (LMAO)

Will you continue going to school as if nothing has happened? What is your appetite like now? Can you eat regular food or is it strictly the red liquid stuff? How do you feel about being stuck as a teenager for the rest of your life?

Caelyn: Of course I feel different. I live off of blood and sunlight burns. WTH kind of question is that?

Angela: *rolls eyes*

Caelyn: Did you just ask me if I was happy to be alive? Seriously? Connor, I think I found your lost twin!

Angela: *shakes head*

Caelyn: Do I think I’ll sparkle in the sunlight? No. But I’m pretty sure you’re going to bleed after this interview.

Angela: *laughs out loud* Sorry, you’re right. I was thinking of a happy, loving type vamp with the sparkling. *waves hand toward Caelyn* You’re obviously more like the old and unoriginal vamps. Nothing new or exciting about you…being a vampire. Got it. *winks* And what about school?

Caelyn: I was all set to drop out of school and become a carnie. Maybe run the tilt-a-whirl or the gravitron. OF COURSE I’M STAYING IN SCHOOL. Only morons don’t finish school. Did YOU finish school?

My appetite? For blood or food? Because I like my blood hot and I can’t eat food. I want blood when I wake up and all day and all night. It never stops. It’s sucks, but so do I.

The immortality thing is pretty cool, but I’m not an idiot. There is plenty of stuff out there that can kill me. The fact that I’ll stay young until that happens… That’s pretty cool.

Angela: Yes, you being around forever is Awesome.

This was such a fun interview. Thanks Sean for allowing your characters to hang with me today.

My Soul to Keep

Ever have one of those bad ideas just pop into your head? You know the ones. They seem like a great idea at the time, but if you had stopped to think about it a moment…

I’m talking about those ideas where you just seize the moment and do what your heart tells you to. Then, after the dust settles and you get bandaged up, your parents say, “What the hell were you thinking?”

“But, Dad, I wasn’t!”

I had one of those moments.

I guess if you want to be technical, I had a whole chain of those moments leading up to the big bang moment. The problem was I didn’t have anyone standing around saying, “What the hell were you thinking?”

The moral of this story?

There are several.

First, stores don’t sell black candles for a reason. They’re bad news. If you happen to come across one in the mall that sells questionable items…walk away. Trust me on this one. Black candles are bad.

Second, always know what you want out of life. Coasting along, not caring about anything will get you into trouble. Maybe more than you can handle.

Lastly, if someone offers to grant you your fondest wish, wish for something you really, truly want. Wish for something that will make the world a better place or you a better person. Never ever wish to be a monster
