Dear Diary,

Leukemia’s been my life since I was eleven. Now, six years later, I want my life back. Only I’m not sure what that is. The test results came back today. 22,000. Which means I’m officially out of remission—again. I have three options:

1) Another round of chemo.
2) A super-new experimental drug.
3) Dump it all— forget the meds and treatments and enjoy the time I have left.

I think I know what I want. Then, in walks Damian, changing everything.

I mean, everything…

He’s got his own set of issues. It binds us together, you know? We understand what it’s like to lose what matters most in seconds. Still, the last thing I need is to have someone else to crush if I can’t fight hard enough. And the last thing he needs is someone else to grieve.

Never mind. I’m down to two options now.

Somehow I know that whichever one I choose, the result will be the same. With the sand in my hourglass seeping to the bottom, I hope there’s enough left to show Damian that life’s worth living.

Worth fighting for. Worth dying for.

Love Always,
Kate

Indie-rocker Bo Lindgren is worshiped for his looks and musical genius. It’s been lonely at the top since his ex left. Bo will never take a girlfriend again though, because he doesn’t have the chops to love. He knows he’s poison, a heartbreak waiting to happen for anyone he allows too close—like his ex. Bo screws his way through the fangirls until he’s sick of it all. Until the dark gaze of Nadia Vidal appears in the door to his dressing room.

Saved from an arranged marriage by Jude, the love of her life, Nadia eloped and got married at nineteen. But now, two years later, life is wilted, dead, and not what anyone should have to endure.

Nadia, with her secret-keeper eyes and instant understanding of who Bo is, attracts and fascinates him without even trying. The ring gleaming on her finger should keep them apart, but morals can’t always resist destiny.

When brokenhearted meets heartbreaker, whose heart is really at stake?

*Standalone novel. Contains explicit language, sex, and emotions.*

*5 Alien Star Review*

I love Bo and Nadia’s dance, it’s slow and intense, and I had a terrible feeling this book would leave me utterly devastated in the end. Well, the end came, and I found myself a complete mess. Nadia’s sad backstory made me want to protect her from hurting any more than she already had. When Bo entered the picture I held my breath, not sure if he would break her or heal her. Turned out, Bo and Nadia were both broken but learn to build something between each other I didn’t see coming. Sunniva Dee writes with tender compassion. Walking Heartbreak is by far my favorite Sunniva Dee has written, and I look forward to devouring her next book!

Chapter 1
Elle

Tristan slid his fingertips down my bare skin to rest on the curve of my hip.

“Time to get up,” he whispered, pressing his chest against my back, warming me against the early morning chill.

“Five more minutes.” I yawned, and Tristan chuckled.

“Long night?” The hand on my hip sloped down to my stomach. Using his palm, Tristan tugged, fitting me against him. I squirmed, and a fire burned away whatever cold remained.

It’d been a while since he’d touched me like this, freely, without a new lacy undergarment tempting him. I wanted him so bad.

“Tristan,” I moaned as he massaged the sensitive mound between my thighs. I spread my legs wider, allowing him full access.

“Thought you were tired,” he said as his lips danced across my skin.

I wiggled. Tristan hissed through clenched teeth as I pressed my ass into his hardness. “Changed my mind.” I reached behind me and weaved my fingers through his thick hair.

Tristan nipped at my neck while the rhythm of his hand drove me wild, adding to the building pleasure between my legs.

“Tristan, I—”

“What, spud?” He slowed his pace, removing his finger from my nub, denying my climax.

Peeping over my shoulder, I found a sexy smirk on his face.

Tristan said, “Tell me what you want.” He pulled his fingers out, leaving my swollen clit throbbing. I whimpered at the loss.

“I want you.” I rolled onto my back to see him clearly. Escaped light filtered in through the cracks in the blinds, revealing the desire darkening his golden brown eyes. “I want you inside me. Plea—”

Tristan’s lips crashed into mine, his tongue claiming my mouth. A shudder ran through me the instant we connected—the moment he possessed my body.

Review of The Damned by Laura Thalassa

The Damned

Blurb:

Taken. Whisked away to hell. Forever bound to a monstrous god. This is seventeen-year-old Gabrielle Fiori’s fate. It’s everything she’s ever feared, and it has all come to pass.

Only … the devil isn’t the monster she remembers. At times he seems gentle and, most unnerving of all, she’s drawn to him. He wants her for all eternity, and if she gives in, everything he has to offer can be hers. The only cost? The last of her soul—and her humanity.

By a twist of myth, Gabrielle finds herself back on earth from dusk to dawn. Back where the living breathe, where Andre de Leon, the king of vampires and her former soulmate, await her. Yet she can’t help but feel that something’s wrong. She’s wrong. Her blood seeds demons and her powers can move earth and air and all manner of creation.

Now angels flood the skies, gods and demons are made flesh. A battle between good and evil is erupting, and if Gabrielle wants to escape hell and save the world, she’ll need to end it, once and for all.

Review: 5 Alien Stars!

I’ve no idea how other to explain this book than anxiety-ridden. Yes, anxiety-ridden is the best term for The Damned.

There’s something sinfully delicious when falling for the bad guy, and Satan, The Devil, Pluto, Hades, Asiri is the epitome of evil. The thing is, I found myself leaning toward him a few times. I admit, a tiny part of me wanted Gabrielle and the Devil to share a happy moment, and yes, I felt so terrible afterward thinking it.

“The devil wasn’t supposed to have a caring side. He was sadness and despair and loneliness and anger and violence and—”

“I am everything and nothing,” he continued. But know this Gabrielle: I am not the devil. Not with you.”

See what I mean! Oh, man I didn’t think I’d be able to read the entire book without indulging in a galss—okay, bottle—of wine! He’s caused Gabrielle and Andre grief from day one, though while he had Gabrielle trapped in hell, Pluto changed.

However, as the myth goes, Gabrielle can leave Hell and return to Earth. Return to Andre, her true soulmate and love of her life. Their affections for one another never wavers, if anything, their bond is strengthened.

“He tasted like I remembered—like home.”

So all was right in the world for like, a second. Oliver and Leann turn up and save the day, duh. 😉 Oliver, oh how I missed the smart-mouthed fairy. His one-liners had me rolling! Leann is a great seer and leads them from ambush after another.

Gabrielle is kick ass in this book! She’s strong and bold and refuses to back down or shy away from what she wants: a life with Andre and her ties free from the Devil for good. Action from page one and the nonstop excitement never slows for a second.

At the end of a series I’m always left feeling something was missing, but not the case with The Damned. Laura Thalassa did a fantastic job writing the final book in The Unearthly Series.

Author Bio:

Sunniva was born in Norway, the Land of The Midnight Sun, but spent her early twenties making the world her playground. Southern Europe: Spain, Italy, Greece—Argentina: Buenos Aires, in particular. The United States finally kept her interest, and after half a decade in California, she now lounges in the beautiful city of Savannah. Sunniva has a Master’s degree in Spanish, which she taught until she settled in as an adviser at an art college in the South.

Sunniva writes New Adult fiction with soul. Sometimes it’s with a paranormal twist, like in Shattering Halos, Stargazer, and Cat Love. At other times, it’s contemporary, as in Pandora Wild Child, Leon’s Way, Adrenaline Crush, and now Walking Heartbreak.

Sunniva is the happiest when her characters take over, let their emotions run off with them, shaping her stories in ways she never foresaw. She loves bad-boys and good-boys run amok, and like in real life, her goal is to keep you on your toes until the end of each story.

*Excerpt*

At twenty-three, you think you’ve experienced a lot. Been there, done that for the most part. Older people might laugh at you for expressing such beliefs, but you still don’t expect to come across reality-altering experiences.

Here I am, with the morning energy of Seven setting in around me as I carry a small, lost cat from the locked unit back to my apartment… only the bundle of fur is changing.

There’s something wrong, I think, my thought natural and instinctive. But when her coat retracts against my hand, replaced by smooth, human skin, my intuition withdraws too and checks out.

I think I roar while she expands in my arms. I’m frozen in place, my vocal cords the only part of me responding. She grows heavier, longer, wider, until she plops from my hold and onto the floor. Vamp-red hair flames around her in bright waves, and is that a snarl lifting her lip?

For an instant, I swipe the hallway with my eyes, hoping someone sees what I see. No nurses, no doctors, only Mrs. Anderson’s ancient husband is there, fists clutching his walking chair while he takes in the apparition between us.

Not a thread covers stunning porcelain skin. She swings, bereaving me of my fleeting view of a small ruby-red triangle and kiss-shaped nipples, and leaps to the breakroom yards from where I stand.

Ulani’s gone. It takes me a moment to react. I meet old Robert Anderson’s incredulous gaze, and I shake my head at him, both denying what we’ve experienced and assuring him that we’re together in this.

As I turn to follow her, he mutters, “Holy God,” behind me, and my next session with a patient will have to be with Robert. He’s been free of Dr. Holstein’s treatments because of his quiet ways, but if he starts talking about this, he’ll quickly become another notch in the good doctor’s lab desk.

I just experienced something I never thought possible. A freaking cat morphed into a woman. Hell, this is what dreams and movies are made of. At the same time, I’m conditioned to react to the needs of my patients, which is why I chase after her now.

Besides Ulani, no one’s in the breakroom. She’s got part of the curtains draped around her, forming an orange toga, and bare toes with scarlet nail polish peek out. She’s stunning, but more than my physical attraction to her, her emotions fascinate me.

My years in this hospital are few, but the number of hours I’ve worked could double the years, and now it’s time to cloak myself in professionalism.

“Ulani,” I say. “Are you okay?” It’s a simple yet necessary question. Since I have no experience with cat women, I’m not privy to the sort of strain such a transformation can have on their bodies.

Her glare is not human, I realize. I was struck by the beauty of those irises the last time I saw her. Now, she narrows my view of saturated emeralds behind slitted eyes. She’s suspicious but not afraid—neither is she the slightest bit confused. This girl has issues, but they’re not on the mental level.

“Don’t. Say. Anything.” Ulani enunciates the words one by one, putting so much emphasis into her command that her intensity reverberates in my chest.

Efficient footsteps clack down the corridor outside. The slight shuffle of Dr. Holstein’s gait accompanies it. Laurie replies to his orders with “right, of course” and “certainly, Dr. Holstein,” but then they both come to a dead halt in the doorway.

“I found Ulani,” I say quietly.

“Remy, John!” Dr. Holstein barks down the hallway. “I need your assistance immediately.”

About The Author

Sunniva

I‘m originally from Norway and moved to the United States in 2001. I have a Master’s degree in languages and taught Spanish at college level before settling in as an adviser at an art college in the South.

I write New Adult fiction with soul. Sometimes it’s with a paranormal twist—like in “Shattering Halos,” published by The Wild Rose Press in February 24th 2014 and in “Stargazer,” released, November 21st 2014 by the same publisher. Since then, I’ve self published New Adult Contemporary novels “Pandora Wild Child,” and “Leon’s Way,” with “Adrenaline”, and “Beneath the Cape”, the superhero anthology benefiting The Wounded Warrior Project in its entirety.

I write impulsive heroines, bad-boys, and good-boys running amok. Intense love, physical and emotional attraction —sensory overload for the reader as well as for the characters. My goal? Is to keep you on your toes until the end of each story.

A GYPSY LOVE EXCERPT

The Curse

Boston, 1792

We roamed free, our spirits unencumbered by greed.
But freedom always came with a price.
Place after place held the same individuals. They were stationary, planting their fields or building their shops, destroying in the guise of improving. Townspeople never lived, too consumed with finding happiness in arbitrary things.
The Romani knew true nirvana, for it lived in our hearts, not our coffers. When the time came for my camp to move on to another town, not once had I wanted to stay and succumb to the prison that bound so many.
Until now.
Our happiness was also our curse. We latched onto love until it melded with our soul, in this life and the after. I would watch with sorrow those of my clan who found their person, the other half of their heart. No, I did not crave gold or jewelry, as townspeople did. I desired to be complete—a desire that consumed me. But I was not one of the lucky few to find love within the Romani. My heart did not travel with us.
My love existed beyond our tiny caravan, and I had to trust that a gem lived in the decay most considered civilized society. I had begged Mama, and even Papa, to allow me to venture. But denial fell from their lips every time. My father would never allow his only child to marry a gorger: You marry Romani, or you do not marry.
This time, when our wagons stopped to stake our makeshift homes into the earth, my heart leapt with excitement. Papa’s warnings about outsiders always rang with paranoia. But if my love were a gorger, I would not hesitate to act.
Maybe I would find the rest of my heart in the city by the sea.
“Your time will come, Miryah.” Mama’s words had become a mantra, words of hope. She did not believe as Papa, her soul romantic like mine.
“You always say the same thing.” I slid a trunk from the wagon, and excitement shot currents under my skin. Maybe her prediction would finally turn to reality.
“These people will bring new challenges,” she said with a hint of weariness. Her dark eyes searched the smoky black night, as if able to see through the barest hints of daylight.
“Perhaps, but we will stay,” Papa said, leader of our clan. No one challenged him—except for me. “Make a place for the others, Miryah. They will arrive in a fortnight.”
“Yes, sir.” I glanced at the full moon while I pulled more supplies from our old wagons. Wind blew strands of hair in my face, but it did not hinder my vision. A ring of light traced the moon’s edge. The perfect time of night for enchantment. For spells. For change. I squeezed the medallion hanging from my neck as a chant escaped my lips: Love is divine, so as is mine. Wise of head, send my love to my bed. This medallion holds powers that bind, and the desire of the mind. His face will see mine, and love will bind.
Warmth rushed over my skin.
This time, my heart would find me.

***

The next morning, in the brightest hour, Mama and I walked near the harbor amongst the townspeople, the dreaded gorgers Papa warned me against. Staring eyes and hushed words were common during supply runs. Men leered at our low-cut gowns and women scowled, waving at their bosom with delicate fans as if the very sight of us caused illness.
Civilized. No, these people were animals trapped in a fetid corral.
If unwashed bodies and toothless smiles were the criteria for acceptance, I would proudly remain an outlier.
“You’ll do well to ignore them,” Mama whispered, always knowing where my thoughts were. She pinched the inside of my arm to sell her point.
“Ouch.” I rubbed the sting. “Mama, please.”
“A reminder.” She laughed, heading straight for the fishmongers lining the docks.
“My wares are not for sale to you,” said a man with dull eyes. The day’s catch stained his apron and saturated his skin.
Mama raised her chin. “We can pay as well as everyone else.”
“I care not for your money, Gypsy.” His dirty paw snatched a fish from her hand. “Your kind’s not welcome.”
“Their coin will buy pints just as quickly, Gus.” A man with a baritone voice dropped his fishhook and came to stand by the smelly man. Guts and gore smeared his apron, too, yet repulsion did not color my stomach when I looked at him.
On the contrary, once my eyes found his, I knew. The thumping against my chest picked up as it had the night before. His lips curved into a smile that made my heart ache. Strong shoulders, a sharp jawline, and raven hair would haunt my dreams every night from that moment on. But his eyes drew me in, undoing me. Those eyes, flecked with green and gold, did not leer at me with lust.
No, in his eyes, I found…me.
Gus threw up his hands and backed away. “Their thievery is on your head.” He stomped away, muttering, “Bleeding heart bastard.”
The man ignored him. “I apologize for his ignorance.” He bowed before Mama. “Adrian Mathews at your service, madam.”
My inner voice rejoiced. I was his, even before he spoke a word to me.
Mama blushed with a relieved smile. “I am Gitana, and this is my daughter, Miryah.”
“It is a pleasure.” Adrian gestured to his wares. “Whatever you’d like, I will wrap.”
Mama chose the largest fish on the table. “How much for this one?”
“For you and your lovely daughter, a gift.” Adrian’s smile shined like a star, even under the grime and dirt of his profession.
Taken aback, Mama shook her head. “I will only accept your generous offering if you join us for dinner.” Adrian opened his mouth, but Mama held up her hand. “I insist. Miryah will cook. You will enjoy.”
He laughed, the sound sweeter than a taste of fruit. “It would be my honor. Thank you.”

***

Adrian’s company did not cease with one dinner. Even Papa grew to enjoy his company. And for the first time with an outsider, he extended Adrian’s welcome for as long as we were camped. Every evening Adrian would join us to eat by the fire and listen to music. His presence was my heaven. But one morning, he became my world.
“I know you’re awake, Miryah. I’ve a blanket and a basket full of fresh strawberries and bread. Come, I want to take you somewhere.”
“No, I’m not ready to face the day,” I lied, hoping he’d charm me.
Adrian did not disappoint. “My day will not start until your face appears.” His sigh echoed through the canvas and whispered in my ear. “I’ve missed your smile, your enchanting eyes. Please, woman, do not make me beg.”
I giggled. “You saw me just last evening.” I brushed my hair, my gown already laced.
“Hours are centuries when I’m without you.”
My heart exploded as the brush landed on the ground in my haste to leave my tent. When I faced him, my skin flamed, the need to touch him causing my fingers to tremble. “Do you always know what to say, Adrian?”
His eyes traveled the length of my body as passion flickered in his stare. “No, but I always know what I want.”
My breath hitched. “Care to reveal what that is?”
“Yes, but not here.” He snatched my hand, taking us from camp to a remote spot near the riverbank.
Flowers swayed with the cool breeze. The sun had not reached its peak in the sky, and I shivered, gooseflesh covering my skin.
“Are you cold?”
I nodded. Adrian pulled me close, wrapping his strong arms around my shoulders. I leaned into his warmth and looked up, meeting those ever-changing hazel eyes. My medallion heated around my neck as his mouth descended on mine. The delicate kiss ignited a fire in my abdomen the moment his tongue separated my lips, and I moaned.
“You taste better than I imagined.”
“What else have you imagined?”
He cupped my face. “When I sleep, your face fills my dreams. And when I wake, you’re my first thought.”
The medallion flared with heat again. A sign. “I’ve waited so long. Traveled far to find you.”
And I had waited long enough.
I pulled away from his arms only to fan the blanket he’d brought on the grass.
A smile tugged at Adrian’s lips when I faced him again. My pulse galloped with each step he took toward me. The sound from nearby animals faded as he pressed his lips to mine.
When the last of my clothes fell to the ground, the gallops turned into a sprint.
“Beautiful,” he whispered.
The rest of the day was spent kissing, making love…talking about our future. I hoped we had a future, but our lives traveled in different worlds. As much as Papa accepted him, Adrian was still an outsider. My chest ached at the thought of leaving him.
Adrian placed a kiss against my bare shoulder. “Your silence troubles me.”
“I am afraid you are a dream.”
Adrian smiled. “If I am a dream, I am only yours.”
Mine. He made me a vow.
He lied.

Now on to my 5 Alien Star review of Adrenaline by Sunniva Dee!

Holy shit this book is amazing! Sunniva totally outdid herself with Adrenaline! This story is golden! I mean you feel so much: Passion, Raw Emotion, Humor, Sadness, and Love. Man, love and heartache drips from every page! Cam is playful and totally reminds me of a big teddy bear. He’s not extreme sports, like jumps without thinking. He scared the crap out of my a few times. Ingela is so freaking funny! She’s from Sweden and her English slang is so off at times you can’t help but laugh your ass off. Together these two steam up the page. Their chemistry is off the charts, but so is Ingela and Bo…. Enter another hottie! There isn’t really a love-triangle here, but, um, yeah. I can’t give anymore details or it’ll give the entire book away. Sorry, charlie 😉 You experience so many highs and lows, but it’s worth every bit of your time.

So I always relate my stories with songs, and two came to mind while reading Adrenaline: Florida Georgia Line’s Sipping On Fire (Cam’s song) and Taylor Swift’s Style (Bo’s song)! I’ve added each video below ❤

CAMERON

Life’s the shit!
Chicks squeal over how wild and yummy I am, play their silly games trying to tie me down. But I’m free as a bird, doing what makes life life: kicking extreme-sport-ass!

I base jump, snowboard, bungee jump. I do anything for the rush.

Then, Ingela blows into town for college—a cool Swedish blast of trouble. Foulmouthed and runway-gorgeous, the girl seeps in like poison and melts the freaking brain.

To Ingela I am what chicks were to me: pastime, leisure, entertainment, pleasure. She’s killing me, and I’m digging it. There’s a new rush in town! Yeah, I hunt down my highs, and now the chase is on. I’ll catch her soon enough, just, what’s the deal with her ex?

With Ingela, sex is a dance. A slow tango where skin flows over skin. It is slick readiness, a quiet welcome. It’s smooth, warm, right, and all wrong.

On and off. On and off. Again, she’s wrecked with grief. It’s a reminder of how I destroy her, how crushed relationships shouldn’t be revived.

We’ve done this for years, now, but clearly we’re in for more.
