~BREAKING NEWS~

MEMENTO MORI

Take tea with the Victorian Mafia – organised crime has never been so civilised

They say revenge is a dish best served cold – in the Lamb residence it is more likely served out of a fine bone china cup.

The untimely demise of Thaddeus Lamb (murdered, poor fellow) leaves his son Riley in charge of Assam and Earl Grey, prostitutes and extortion. Under the watchful eyes of a street philosopher who prints everything he hears, Riley and his family grieve for Thaddeus in the best way possible – retribution.

To make matters worse, the assassin O’Murtagh is leaving a trail of bodies behind, which pave their bloody way to the Lamb’s highly glossed front door.

Through a series of informants who, unfortunately, have to be disposed of; a nasty turf war over brothels and dollymops; and somebody who is depleting the coffers, life in the Lamb household falters but does not crumble, and retains its genteel veneer of calling cards, tea shops and chocolate sponge – all the social niceties, etiquette and manners that come as part of being in the upper echelons of London Victorian society.

Riley slowly starts to unravel the terrible deception that has been carried out against the Lambs, but betrayal, murder and heartbreak make for uneasy bedfellows, and he and his family can never truly rest easy, even when the Lambs have carried out their own law.

And when the cadavers start piling up, Riley and those he loves find themselves in more trouble than they could ever have anticipated.

Honestly, it’s enough to drive anyone to drink – one lump or two? The matrons of Regent’s Park will never be the same again.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Another Day, Another Author Spotlight for the Holiday E-book Giveaway: Joanne Wadsworth

17378761

Joanne Wadsworth is such a sweetheart and I’m so glad to have her as a friend. Aside from creating one of my favorite YA romance series, Joanne is busy shuffling 4 kiddos from here to there while working in the day….I wonder when the woman finds time to write such wonderful, no-sleep-because-you-have-to-finish-reading-her-book stories 0_o? Joanne has donated Warrior, the second book in the Magio-Earth series. Warrior picks up where Protected (book, 1) finished, but this time starring Hope, Faith’s twin sister. Just as in Protector, soul-bound mates hook you in the early pages and leaves you wishing for MORE in the end. Enchanter (book, 3) is set to come out in the next year and I’m sure the story will be just as, if not more wonderful than the first two. Below is a quick blurb as well as where to find more of her books! Don’t miss out on your chance to win this fantastic book in the giveaway.

~Merry Christmas and Happy New Year~

Warrior Book Two in the Magio-Earth series.

To love and protect…across worlds.

Eighteen-year-old Hope Wincrest calls the Outback of Australia her home away from home. She is a princess of Dralion from the planet Magio, where the two leading nations are at war. While in the Outback, Hope is warned by her warrior father–who holds the prophetic ability of forethought–that she is about to meet an enemy protector. She doesn’t expect him to be her soul-bound mate, a man she must now work with to piece together her unknown mother’s lost heritage.

Peacio’s Silas Carver follows the calling of his soul to Australia, only not all goes as planned. Discovering Hope is his mate has him demanding his release from their bond. She agrees, but only if he first helps her learn about her mother.

Hope must lay her life in Silas’s hands during a journey which takes them deep into foreign lands. Waging a battle of the heart, and of the land, can the young mated pair find their place with each other?

Holiday E-book Giveaway Author Spotlight: Heather Van Fleet

Heather has entered two of her books for our giveaway: Resisting Fate (Predetermined, #1) and A Long Time Coming (Perfect Timing, #2). Resisting Fate is a Young Adult powerhouse with over 36 reviews on Goodreads. A Long Time Coming is a great, New Adult read with high emotion-filled situations. Heather’s characters certainly will  stick with you long after the story ends.

Sooooo, for those of you looking to unwind this holiday season with a great book written by a fabulous author, look no further! Be sure to enter for a chance to win one or BOTH of Heather’s books….you WON’T be disappointed! Now on to my interview with this kick a@@ author.

First off, let’s start with the basic info, can you tell us who Heather Van Fleet is?

Well, let’s see. First and foremost, I’m a mom. That will always hold top reins over everything I do. I stay home during the day with my 3 y/o and watch my 2 y/o niece while my two older daughters (yeppers, all girls) are at school.  I’ve been married to my hubby for eleven years, but we’ve been together since he was fifteen and I was sixteen. Definite motivation when writing YA love stories, for sure. I am all for high school, happily ever after ☺

What did you do before you became an author? Or do you still have some other side job to writing?

Before I put on the official author hat, I was simply a mom. One point in time I was a pre-k teacher too, but decided I wanted to be my girlies teacher more than everyone else’s ☺

How did your interest in writing start?

Cliché, I’m sure, but it started after I read the Twilight Series. I was on a book hangover for months with those things, reading them over and over. Then I started expanding my reading (which was a tragedy until I discovered that Twilight was not the only book for me) I started blogging/reviewing at a reviews site and said to myself ‘hey, you know what? This writing stuff doesn’t seem so hard.’ Hah! How wrong was I, lol.

Can you tell us a little bit of your writing process?  Do you have to have music, coffee, tea, or simply meditate?

I have a weird writing process to be honest. I can only write in certain places. Number one is Starbucks. When I can’t make the journey there, I sit at my kitchen table. I can’t sit in bed or on a couch to write because no matter what, I always fall asleep. I’m odd like that. I can’t listen to music anymore because I found myself writing the lyrics into my books as I listened to them. But the one necessity I have to have while I write, is…a straw. Yes. I may seem like a loon, but I have to be chewing on a straw. No shame ☺

Of all the characters in your books, who’s your favorite character to write, and why?

That is THE toughest question yet. So how about I go with my three most favorite instead? ☺ One would be Emmy from Resisting Fate/Seizing Fate. She is so full of piss and vinegar and doesn’t take anybody’s crap. I love her like my daughter at times. I also love Mason from When It’s Least Expected. He’s such a smart mouth, but some of the swoony stuff that comes out of his lips makes me wish my hubby could take some lessons from him, lol. I have another new fave too. His name is Xavier. He’s absolutely deeeeelish. Not to forget mentioning that he calls his love interest, Deelish too. He’s from my latest super–secret mature YA novel entitled Taking a Chance. That boy makes me want to be eighteen again…for real.

How do you come up with ideas for your books?

A lot of the times, my girls are my inspiration. We have character naming days. The two oldest have picked almost all of my characters names to be honest. Then from there on out, the stories just come from me. I get ideas from movies, or commercials. When It’s Least Expected was born from a song to be honest. So basically wherever the idea hits, I’m there to catch it

How long does it usually take you to write a book?

It honestly depends on how much time I have, as well as how much I want to tell the story. Taking a Chance was written in less than six weeks. But I was psychotically writing that book like it was my love slave, mainly because I was really feeling the characters and their story.  Typically though, first drafts usually take me about three months to get that rough draft out and ready to go.

What is your favorite book/genre to read and why?

As far as genres go, Young Adult books will always be my top choice. I love the idea of first love—the thrill of experiencing it for the first time. And yes, the heartbreak that goes along with it as well. It’s truly my most fave.

What do you love most about writing?

I’m not going to lie. I love writing because it’s an escape from reality. Being a stay at home mom is hard, hard work. But knowing I can hang with my imaginary friends at night when the kiddos are asleep is truly a rewarding thing.

What is the most difficult thing about writing?

The most difficult thing is finding the time. Some weeks I write a ton, other weeks I barely write a few words. I wish that some nights I didn’t require sleep because when I can’t write, I get all sorts of anxious and I hate it.

What is your favorite color?

Pink!

Any last words?

Thank you for listening to me ramble on and on. I do it a lot. If you read my books, you’re awesome, if you don’t…you’re still awesome and I appreciate you taking the time to read my interview.

And Angela, you rock for having me on your blog today. Thanks a million!

Thank you, Heather, for hanging out and adding to this great list of books 😀

That’s it for now folks! Be sure to check back tomorrow for another author feature.

Holiday E-book Giveaway Author Spotlight: Laura Thalassa

9 Days of Christmas Giveaway presents: Laura Thalassa’s debut novel, The Unearthly.  The Unearthly is currently listed as #49 in Kindle e-books, Dark Fantasy reads. And better yet, the next book in this series, The Coveted, is now released! Be sure to enter for a chance to win Laura’s The Unearthly and then follow it up with book 2! Woohoo 😀

My Review:

I’ve read many books, however, The Unearthly took me by surprise. . .in a good way. The world Laura created is poignant, unique, quirky, clever, and highly addicting.

Gabrielle is an amazing young woman who’s life is about to change, forever. Her acceptance to Peel Academy is a new start, a way to fit in…but at what cost?

Leanne and Oliver, Gabrielle’s newest friends, are such a hoot! Leanne takes Gabrielle under wing, so to speak, right away. Oliver seriously cracks me up! His spunky attitude sticks with you till the end.

Andre de Leon ~sigh~ is such an arrogant jerk, as most wealthy, sexy bachelors tend to be. However, underneath his rough exterior is a soft, lovable. . .vampire. King of Vampires to be exact. The tension flowing between him and Gabrielle constantly drove me crazy. You know when you read a book and scream, “Just kiss her already!” Well, I really, really wanted to yell at the two of them. A lot.

Once Gabrielle discovers what type of school Peel Academy really is and what she is, everything changes.

Gabrielle’s life is in grave danger from one page to the next. Action upon action creates a nice heart racing experience while reading this book. The question throughout has you jumping from one suspect to the next. Problem being, our yummy Andre is listed as a suspect as well.

The end creeps up on you, leaving you a bit breathless. So many factors bring a good deal of WTH while reading and in the end, you lose it. I want more. Scratch that, I NEED more, and I oh so desperately NEED Gabrielle and Andre to…..
